Red Sox Draft Lex Grad Zach Sterry

LEXINGTON, OH.  With the 251st pick in the eighth round, the Boston Red Sox selected Zach Sterry a first baseman from Oakland University (Michigan).  Sterry is also a 2013 graduate of Lexington High School.

While at Lexington Sterry was a three-time All-Ohioan in Division II his senior season the Minutemen finished as D-2 District runner-up.  While at Lexington he played catcher, but for the Grizzlies the left hander played first base. 

Sterry batted .301 with a .466 slugging percentage during 2016 as a junior.  He also became the first Oakland player since 2005 to be drafted in the first ten rounds and is the second highest draft selection in school history.

Sterry is 5'11" 226lbs. batted .346 (64-185) 13 home runs, 14 doubles, one triple and 44 RBIs in 48 games for Oakland this past season.  

Sterry is expected to report to the Red Sox's New York Penn League affiliate in Lowell Massachusetts within the week.  The Lowell Spinners start their season June 19th.
