The Richland County Commissioners Monday met in executive session with their attorney, Harry Welsh, to discuss the county sheriff's plan to file a lawsuit over his 2010 budget.

Welsh said Sheriff Steve Sheldon has not filed a lawsuit yet and he will meet with Sheldon's attorney to discuss mediation.

Commissioner Ed Olson said they have agreed to have a retired, out-of-town judge serve as mediator.

Two weeks ago, the commissioners proposed a budget of $1.6 million for the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office requested $2.4 million.
