House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is opening up about his loss in the GOP Primary in Virginia's 7th Congressional District last week to newcomer Dave Brat, a little-known candidate with grassroots support. On CNN's State of the Union, Cantor reflected on the defeat with CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash. "I just want to go to that night in particular," Bash said. "What was it like to be you? Take us to the moment when you realized, 'Wow, I'm gonna lose here.'" "Well, you know, I was with my family. And you know, it's very comforting, as you know, if you have a strong family," Cantor says. "I have a wonderful wife of 25 years, three wonderful kids, two of whom were with me. "And I told him, I said, Look, dad's gonna lose. And, I actually called my son who works up in New York and he said, you're kidding. And I said, no I'm really not. And he said You're kidding," Cantor continue. "I said no, I said look things happen for a reason we don't always know here and now why and I think the perspective of time will actually indicate something that may have seemed really bad at the time can turn out to be really good." Cantor says he will step down from his position as House Majority Leader at the end of July. House Republicans will vote this week on his replacement.
