Americans are wasting $4-billion a year on an everyday appliance. According to a report by the National Resource Defense Council, many people in the U.S. are using inefficient clothes dryers. They use as much energy annually as energy efficient clothes washers, dishwashers and refrigerators combined. The environmental group says Americans spend $9-billion a year to operate dryers. A scientist from the group says electric dryers should be updated to more efficient heat-pumping models, like those sold mostly in Europe. U.-S. energy standards for dryers have only been updated three times since 1970, according to the report.
