Mid-Ohio Opens 53rd Season Friday

The 53rd season of racing begins this weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington with the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio. Cars from 11 racing groups that feature Lolas, Ferraris, Mustangs, Triumph Spitfires, Trans-Ams and Aston Martins will be on the track and on the grounds, with the feature mark being the Mini Cooper.

The Sportscar Vintage weekend will be followed by the AMA's Vintage Motorcycle Days July 11th through the 13th. This event gives motorcycle lovers a chance to see vintage bikes and has what is called the biggest cycle swap meet this side of the Mississippi. In addition their will also be on and off road vintage racing. That will be followed by the AMA Superbike Weekend on July 19th and 20th. Four major racing series will be on the track over the weekend with the main event, the Wiseco American Superbike double header set to go off on Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.

The weekend of August 1st through the 3rd will see the return of the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio as team owner Chip Ganassi will try to make it six straight wins at Mid-Ohio. Charlie Kimball earned his first victory in the series last summer at Mid-Ohio. The Honda Indy 200 will take the green flag on Sunday, August 3rd at 3pm.

The racing season will conclude at the track the weekend of August 15th and 16th with the return of Nascar for the second straight year with the Nationwide Children's 200. Last season, 40 cars were on the grid with AJ Allmendinger winning the initial 90 lap event. The feature race will be held Saturday, August 16th.
