Travis Hissong, a 2010 graduate of Clear Fork High School and a big cog in the wheel that helped the Colts win the Division III state baseball title that year has signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees Class "A" short season affiliate in Staten Island.

In talking with Hissong and his high school baseball coach Jeremy Riddle, the Staten Island Yankees will open their season on Friday against Brooklyn and will play 77 games in 81 days. Hissong just finished his junior season at Wright State University in Dayton where he was 2-3 with an era of 4.23 in seven starts with 39K's. As a closer the season before he went 4-1 with an era of 2.39 with 52K's.

Hissong says he is not sure how the SI Yanks will use him, but he is up for either. The former Colt was also being courted by the L.A. Dodgers but chose to stay closer to home so that family and friends could see him pitch.
