Area Athletes To Compete At State Saturday

Several Mansfield area distance runners will be competing in the state finals on Saturday in Columbus at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. In the Division II 1,600 meters Lexington's Dominique Clairmonte will be running with the third fastest time in the state at 5:03.1.

In the Division II boys 1,600, Colonel Crawford's Clay Martin will compete with the fifth fastest time at 4:24.2. In the girls D-2 3,200, Lexington's Lillian Freundlich will be running, her 11:35 was good enough for 4th place at regionals. In the boys Division II 3,200, Ontario's Brett Cortelletti and Lexington's Nick Stricklen have the second and third fastest times going in at 9:45.7 and 9:46.7.

Here are some of the results from Friday's finals and prelims. In the D-2 shot put, Clear Fork's Eric Jackson made the podium in sixth place with a toss of 54'3.5". In the girls D-3 pole vault, Wynford's Callie Ruffener finished in fourth with a vault of 11'4", while Crawford's Alex Carter made the podium in 8th place at 10'4". In the girls D-3 long jump, Emily Weber of Loudonville took third place with a jump of 17'6", while Crestview's Ben Olewiler finished as Division III state runner-up in the high jump at 6'7".

In the Division III girls 400 meter's Colonel Crawford's Chelsey Webster advanced to Saturday's final in a time of 59.2. In the Division II girls 4x800 meter relay the Lexington team of Mackenna Curtis-Collins, Abby Miller, Lillian Freundlich and Dominique Clairmonte made the podium in 5th at 9:32.6. The Galion girls 4x100 meter relay team of Laura McElligott, Michaela Slone, Sydney Hunt and Clair Erlsten advanced to Saturday's D-2 finals with the second fastest time in the prelims at 49.1.

Ontario's Lenell Shelby advanced in the D-2 110 and 330 hurdles in 14.8 and 39.5. In the girls D-2 100 and 200 meters, Brittany Parcell advanced to the final in 12.1 and 25.4. In the D-2 boys 200 meters Ontario's Cam Mack advanced in 22.2. In the boys Division I 110 meter hurdles, Frank Douglas of Madison has moved on to Saturday's finals in a time of 14.2, while also qualifying for the finals in the 300 meter hurdles with a 38.97.

In the girls Division I 100 meter prelims, Symphony Cooke of Mansfield Senior & Autumn Heath of Lakota East both hit the line with the top preliminary time of 11.83 and will meet in Saturday's final. The pair will also square-off in the 200 meter finals, with Cooke qualifying in 4th at a time of 24.79.    

The top eight in each event make the podium.
