Madison Gets Back Their Cushion

A night after getting bounced by rival Lexington on the road 8-1, the Madison baseball team came back Friday night and returned the favor beating the Minutemen on Esley Lane 10-4. With Madison leading 2-1 heading into the fifth inning, the Minutemen committed four errors which helped Madison tally five runs to break the game open.

Madison's Josh Smith had two hits driving in four runs, while the Rams Zane Harris smacked a double that brought home three runs. Michael Penny started for Madison and gave up six hits and two runs to get the win.  Bo Curvin picked up the save. For Lexington, Brody Basilone took the loss going five innings and giving up five hits. Lexington's Evan Lee had three hits and four rbi's.

With the win Madison improves to 13-5 overall and 9-1 in the OCC, leading the conference by two games. The Minutemen slip to 11-7 and 7-3 in league play. The loss also snapped Lex's seven game winning streak. Both teams still have four OCC games remaining. Madison has two with Ashland scheduled for this week, then two with Wooster the following week. Lexington will play two with the Generals this week, then close out conference play with two against Orrville the following week.
