It was a slow start to the season for Lexington, dropping three of the teams first four, but the Minutemen have since turned things around in a major way.

The purple and gold had racked up 7- consecutive wins and found themselves just a game back of Madison in the OCC standings after handing the Rams their first loss in conference play on Thursday evening.

Lexington jumped out to a 6-0 lead after just two innings on Madison behind a pair of bombs from Brody Basilone and Evan Lee off Rams starter Blake Lampert. The hot early start on the offensive side of the ball helped Minutemen starting pitcher Zack Temple find his groove, allowing just one run on four hits, while walking one and striking out eight.

Basilone would end the night 2-3 from the dish with a homerun, single and five runs batted in, bolstering Lexington to a 8-1 win over the OCC leading Rams.

Minutemen head coach Kevin Morrow says the win over Madison "is a good statement game, but we gotta go over there [to Ram Field] and Madison's tough."

Handing the Rams an OCC loss "takes all of it off of hoping that they lose, to let's play with them." Temple says. "If we win [at Madison on Friday] that will be huge."

Lex would not be able to win at Ram Field however, dropping the game 10-4 with Mike Penny picking up the win for Madison. With just two league games remaining for both squads, Lexington (7- 3 in OCC) will have to bank on Madison (9-1 in OCC) losing their final two conference games and win each of theirs to grab a share of the OCC.
