A report of a pedestrian being hit by a car on Interstate-71 sends Ohio Highway Patrol troopers and a rescue squad racing to the scene Wednesday afternoon.

They found a car stopped along the southbound lane, a mile north of State Route 97, and the driver and witnesses say that report was false.

Trooper Chad Belcher says the passenger had jumped out of the moving car, then walked through a wooded area to Vanderbilt Road, where he was met by a squad and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The names of the driver and passenger are not being released.

The driver's car was towed because he does not have a license, but he was not arrested or charged while the incident is investigated.
