The city of Ontario has a new outdoor amphitheater in Marshall Park that community members were able to enjoy for the first time this week.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication were held at the new band shell Tuesday evening, followed by a free performance by the DeVault Ridge Band which brought out a number of community members.

Director of Ontario Growth Corp Mark Weidemyre says the new amphitheater has "been very well received" by the community. He believes the free event admission has much to do with the positive feedback and says it "was our intention to give back to the community in some way."

Weidemyre gave a lot of credit to Ontario Mayor Randy Hutchinson for organizing upcoming events for the band shell, which include; three more concerts, a karaoke contest and open mic night. The Richland County Development Group also received recognition from Weidemyre for contributing "the lions share" of the $13,000 needed to construct the band shell.

Weidemyre also says Lowes donated material for the project, while Azara Construction donated their services and Pioneer Vocational School designed the plans and helped construct the band shell.
