MANSFIELD, OH - The Lexington Blueberry Festival, a four-day event in the village, opened through Sunday. The majority of festivities are based at Lexington Community Park.

Blueberries will be showcased in many foods and events including, new this year, the Blueberry Stomp with teams competing in blueberry foot-stomping fun. There are the annual pageants for Miss Blueberry including Little Miss, Wee Miss, Baby Miss and more pageant titles. The multiple pageants for children are multiple days at Heartland Church. There will be a 5K Blueberry race on Saturday, August 19th, at 9 a.m.

You just cannot have a festival about the 'super fruit' and not feature a blueberry-themed parade, with the second of two parades, Sunday, August 20th, at 2 p.m. which will follow the huge fireworks show in Lexington on Saturday night at 10:10 pm.

Get to Lexington for a weekend of blueberry fun through Sunday.

The 8th annual Corn Roast in Ashland County is a benefit for Hospice of North Central Ohio. The fundraiser is Saturday, August 19th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Ashland County Fairgrounds.

There will be a full menu of home-baked goodies on top of delicious, fresh sweet corn from local growers. Enjoy plenty of live music, events designed for children, and a pie auction too.

There is a suggested $5 minimum donation per person.

Word came down this week that the Ohio State Reformatory will be the site of "Escape Plan 3" with filming to begin in early fall.

There is a casting call for extras in this production, a prison break, starring Sylvester Stallone and Dave Bautista.

They are looking for day players, extras, and those of Eastern European descent. They are also seeking out persons with MMA experience. The second movie in the franchise, Escape 2, will open in late 2018.

Miles Chapman wrote the first two films and is writing the third, with director Steven C. Miller back behind the camera.

Regarding the Ohio State Reformatory, American Idol season 9 winner Lee DeWyze shot a music video at the prison and fell in love with the awesome, natural acoustics of the old chapel. DeWyze loved the entire building's acoustics and promised a return concert.  His one-night show is Sunday evening, August 27th.

DeWyze will perform a true acoustic set with no amplification. The concert time is 9 p.m.

Go to for details of this upcoming show and other concert dates.

It's Bratwurst Festival weekend in Bucyrus, now into their 50th year of celebrating, through Saturday, August 19th. The festival is considered the "most eating" festival in the state.

Train buffs will love the mini riding train for children at 925 West Mansfield St., nine blocks west of the festival area.

Various types of bands will perform all weekend and there will be contesting such as a men's legs competition, mustache and beard contesting too, and parades.
